The Kawakawa River is a river in the Far North District in the Northland region of the North Island of New Zealand .

geography

The river is formed near the place Kawakawa from the confluence of different streams (brooks / rivers), flows mainly in a westerly direction and after a few kilometers has more of the character of an inlet. It merges into the Veronica Channel at the southern end of the Bay of Islands .

The Kawakawa River drains approximately 820 km². The northern border of the catchment area lies between Opua and Moerewa , in the south it is separated from the catchment area of ​​the Hikurangi swamp by a low range of hills.
