Kazimierz Brandys (born October 27, 1916 in Łódź , † March 11, 2000 in Paris ) was a Polish writer of Jewish origin.

Life

Brandys studied law at Warsaw University and made his debut as a theater critic in 1935. 1945–1950 he was a member of the weekly Kuźnica and 1956–1969 of the weekly Nowa Kultura . 1970–1971 he taught Slavic literature at the Sorbonne in Paris . From 1978 onwards he lived outside Poland. His grave is in Paris' largest cemetery, the Père Lachaise .
