Kazimierz Wajda

Kazimierz Józef Wajda (born May 26, 1930 in Bydgoszcz ; died January 22, 2020 ) was a Polish historian.

Life

Kazimierz Wajda studied history at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń from 1949 and at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan from 1952, and in 1954 wrote his master's thesis Ruch robotniczy w rejencji bydgoskiej w latach 1890-1903 . He worked at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw and received his doctorate in 1962 with the dissertation Kwestia rolna na Pomorzu Gdańskim na przełomie XIX i XX wieku and in 1969 with Migracje ludności wiejskiej Pomorza Wschodniego w latach 1850-1914 . In 1988 he was appointed Professor of 19th Century History in Thorn.

His work focused on the social, population and economic history of East and West Prussia, as well as the ethnic heterostereotypes of Poles and Germans. He was the correspondent of the German Historical Commission for East and West Prussian State Research .
