On board are several hundred Jews from various European countries who survived the Holocaust and are now coming to Palestine as illegal immigrants. British soldiers want to prevent them from entering the country. The film shows the fate of a group of immigrants who managed to escape the soldiers. In a makeshift camp of the Jewish underground organization Palmach , they are armed with weapons and take part in the civil war. In the monologues of an Arab farmer and a Jewish refugee who has suffered much in Europe, Gitai expresses positions on both sides.

Reviews
"Since his film is less interested in the people than in the rather pathetic theses that he puts in their mouths, this first Israeli-Palestinian war remains a museum snapshot separate from the current escalation."
