Kees van den Bos

Cornelis "Kees" van den Bos (born May 27, 1965 in The Hague ) is a Dutch social psychologist and professor at the University of Utrecht .

Van den Bos studied sociology at the University of Leiden in 1984 after graduating from high school in Alphen aan den Rijn . There he completed his master's degree in 1990 with a major in social psychology. He then became a research assistant at the Leiden Institute for Social and Organizational Psychology. From 1990 to 1991 he did his military service in the Dutch army as a reserve officer with an academic background . In 1992 he returned to Leiden University as a doctoral student. There was van den Bos under supervision of Henk Wilke in 1996 with the signature Procedural justice and conflict to Dr. phil. PhD. Subsequently, he worked at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences . In 1997 van den Bos became an assistant professor at the University of Leiden, and in 2000 he moved to the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam . In 2001 he took over the full professorship for social psychology including organizational psychology at the University of Utrecht , which he still holds today. In 2013 he also took on a professorship for empirical law at the law faculty of the University of Utrecht.

According to the name of his chair, Van den Bos' research focuses mainly on social psychology. Here he focuses primarily on radicalization and the social behavior of people when dealing with authorities such as superiors or the judiciary. In addition, van den Bos is co-editor of numerous specialist journals at the interface between psychology, sociology and law.
