Kefern green

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Keferngrün is a desert on the site of the Geigersmühle near Ottengrün , part of the town of Helmbrechts in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

The name of the place varies between "Käfergrün, Kefergrün" and "Keferngrun an der Selwiz". Name interpretations understand the ending -grün in the sense of reclaimed grassland and, in the case of Kefern, are based on a personal name or refer to beetles or grasshoppers . Keferngrün was first mentioned in a document in 1373 when the town of Münchberg was sold by the Sparneckers to the Burgraves of Nuremberg . A list of the caste office Münchberg from 1775 names Keferngrün or ( "vulgo" ) the Geigersmühle belonging to Meierhof , this would allow a derivation of Keferngrün as a scattered settlement of the Walpoten and part of the seven free villages . The place must have been abandoned between 1408 and 1497. The name was used until 1692 and has survived as a field name to this day. The Geigersmühle on the Selbitz was built on the remains of a settlement. Fritz Geyger acquired Wiesen zu Keferngrün in 1562 and built the mill on it. To the southwest of the Geigersmühle, already in the Münchberg area, there is a geotope with washing hills of a former gold washing area. Field names southeast of Ottengrün suggest an expansion of the settlement west of today's Geigersmühle district. The mill ditch for the waterwheel that was once overturned also begins here and covers a longer distance.
