Kehidakustány is a Hungarian municipality and spa with just under 1,050 inhabitants in Zala County . The municipality belongs to the small area Zalaszentgrót in western Transdanubia .
location
Kehidakustány lies on a plain on both sides of the Zala River , over which two bridges connect the districts. The place can be reached via a side road. The nearest larger towns are Hévíz (11 km), Keszthely (17 km), Pacsa (18 km) and Zalaegerszeg (23 km).
history
In the past, the site was suitable for crossing the river. Therefore, settlements emerged on both sides of the river, namely Kehida on the western bank and Kustány on the eastern bank. The railway reached the place in 1895. In 1977 the villages of Kehida and Kustány were combined to form the Kehidakustány community.
Kehida
The place has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. Later Celts and Avars settled there. The place was first mentioned in 1232 and destroyed by the Turks in 1588. Ferenc Deák lived in Kehida and owned an estate there.
Kustany
Kustány was first mentioned in 1275. In 1554 a small fortress was built, which was destroyed by the Turks four years later. In 1678 the place received the customs law.
