Keith Vreeland

Keith A. Vreeland (* 1937 or 1938 in Tucson , Arizona ; † August 31, 2018 in Detroit ) was an American jazz musician ( piano , keyboard , composition ) and university teacher.

Live and act

Vreeland was active in the Detroit jazz scene; from the early 1970s he played a. a. with Larry Nozero ( Inside Ourselves , 1970), Wendell Harrison , Phil Ranelin and The Lincoln Street Music Company. In 1988 Vreeland recorded the duo album Synesthesia with the alto clarinet player Marvin Kahn ; In 1996, the album Forget the Fortune, Eat the Cookie (with George Bennett, drums) followed in trio . Ask Me Now (with John Dana , bass and Renell Gonsalves, drums) was born in 2006 with his Keith Vreeland Trio , on which he played jazz standards such as “Detour Ahead”, “ Goodbye Pork Pie Hat ”, “ Whisper Not ” and “You Must Believe” in Spring ”. In the course of his career, in which he was also active as a composer, he also played with Rahsaan Roland Kirk , Pharoah Sanders , Badal Roy and Joe Henderson . In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 1970 and 2006. Vreeland initially worked as a designer at the GM Tech Center, then professor at the College of Creative Studies, where he taught for 39 years.
