Kejnu is an indie rock band from Zurich , Switzerland. The band's music ranges from indie and post rock to folk , pop and electronica .

history

In 2005 Kejnu was launched with the production of the debut Induelo by band leader Nuél Schoch (real name Manuel Schoch). Before that, there were various demo tapes and CDs that were published in small groups under other names (Manuel, Obscura, Onéru). The second member of the band was Alessandro Giannelli, who joined the production of Companion as a drummer after the release of Induelo . At this point Giannelli began his studies at the ZHdK as a jazz drummer. The first concerts were only performed in pairs with guest cellist Bianca Riesner, before the third member Reza Dinally joined them. This was followed by Jonas Luescher, Ambrosius Huber and, after the release of the third album I Have No Arms and No Legs, Ramon Ziegler on Rhodes and synthesizer, all three also jazz students.

Even today, all of Nuél Schoch's songs are written, produced and, for the most part, recorded alone, with the increasing support of drummer Alessandro Giannelli and the other band members. Railwayrecords producer Nico Giannelli was always involved as an engineer and mentor in studio recordings for mixes or mastering. He has for the most part produced and mixed the free download album Companion , which was released with three different album cover versions on New Year's Eve 07/08 and downloaded in over 25 different countries. I Have No Arms and No Legs was produced and mixed except for the drums in the home studio Kalky Records. On June 26th, 2009 the band performed at the festival Basse'court les rue! in Bassecourt . In the same year, on August 15, 2009, an appearance at the Rock Oz'Arènes festival in Avenches followed . In addition to various recording times on the radio, the band with their song was Youth two weeks at No. 1 on Radio 3 times in the hit parade popular song . There was an hour-long interview at Radio Radius . Since 2010 and the release of I Have No Arms and No Legs , the band has been under contract with the Friborg indie label SAÏKO Records.

Surname

The band name Kejnu is pronounced as it is spelled ( kej as in 'OK', nu as in 'number'). It was derived from the Latin term arcanum (secret, secret) and its use in a number of experimental instrumental recordings . The name has no meaning of its own. The decisive factor for its use was that the term Kejnu was not found anywhere on the Internet at the time. Meanwhile, the Serbian spellings of the American film The Caine Mutiny or the character Charles Foster Kane in the American film Citizen Kane were added.

Artwork

Nuél Schoch studied fine arts at the F + F School for Art and Media Design in Zurich and designs all of the band's appearances, such as album covers , posters, flyers and websites, himself. Companion's album covers, which originally showed a hyena, were repeatedly photographed from the screen and then blurred using copy-paste. The album cover of I Have No Arms and No Legs shows the cut off scalp of an orange, paired with the uniform badge of the army and the band and album name disappearing in it.
