Location of Keldung in Rheinland-Pfalz

Keldung is a district of Münstermaifeld in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . Until December 31, 1975, Keldung was an independent municipality.

Geographical location

The place is about four kilometers southwest of the city of Münstermaifeld on the edge of the Elz valley between the castles Eltz and Pyrmont.

history

The core of the place, probably mentioned for the first time in 1121 under the name Cheledin (since 1148 also Celdnic), is the lower village below the chapel consecrated to St Stephen. St Stephanus is mentioned for the first time in 1589, and there is evidence of a Stephanus chapel for 1634. In the 17th century the chapel belonged to the parish of Münstermaifeld. In 1700 the church received a new choir and a baroque altar. In the course of the purchase of a 238 pound bell in 1712, the tower was rebuilt, in 1776 the choir was rebuilt according to plans from 1731.

After the old chapel threatened to collapse in 1830, the nave was renewed in 1832 according to plans by building inspector Nebel. The bells of the chapel come from the Cistercian convent Rosenthal in Pommerbach (Binningen), which was closed in 1800.

politics

The district of Keldung is one of five local districts that were formed by the main statute in Münstermaifeld. The election of a local advisory board is not planned.

Klaus Müller has been the mayor since September 5, 2019 . He was elected by the city council because there was no candidate in the direct election on May 26, 2019. Müller is the successor to Hans Röser.
