Kelly Roberty

Kelly Roberty (also Kelly Roberti , born November 13, 1954 in Malta (Montana) , † March 7, 2016 in Bozeman ) was an American jazz bassist.

Live and act

Roberty came from a musical family with roots in Genoa and Sicily; he first appeared in public at the age of eleven. In the course of his career he played a. a. with Arnett Cobb , Eddie Harris , Freddie Hubbard , Tommy Flanagan and David Murray , with whom he appeared in 1995 at the New York jazz club Village Vanguard (album on the Japanese label Sound Hills); he was also a mentor and teacher of young jazz musicians in his hometown of Bozeman. With Bob Nell , Chuck Florence and Jack Walrath , Roberty formed the formation Montana in the 1980s; the album of the same name was made in 1985. At the local level, he appeared with the trio Nell-Roberti-Edwards (with Bob Nell and Brad Edwards). In the field of jazz he was involved in eleven recording sessions between 1978 and 2013 with vibraphonists Fred Raulston , Jim Honaker, Jack Walrath, the Bob Nell Piano & Double Bass Quartet and Mary Jane Williams . In 2010 he played the album Slumber - The Ballads of Kelly Roberti .

In 2010 he was awarded the Montana Governor's Award for the Arts ; In 2015 he was honored with the Bozeman Public Library Foundation's Cornerstone Award for his reading and concert series Jazz & More with Kelly Roberti .
