Celtic leaf crown

Leaf crown of the figure of the "Celtic Prince" from Glauberg

The Celtic leaf crown is a leaf-decorated hood with lateral, fish-bubble or leaf-shaped attachments. The guess that their shape goes back to mistletoe leaves has some likelihood. The headgear can be found on the sandstone statue of the Celtic prince from Glauberg . The attribute can also be found on the Pfalzfeld column from the Hunsrück or the "head of a Celtic statue" from Heidelberg-Bergheim (5th century BC).

One can only speculate about the importance of the leaf crown. Apparently it was a hood made of wire and leather, which probably represented a connection to the world of gods.

Parallels

Bronze from Reinheim

A figure found in Uppåkra Sweden in 2007 , which Swedish archaeologists interpret as a lion head from the Viking Age , shows connections to Celtic symbolism. What is reminiscent of "Mickey Mouse" ears in Uppakra has a striking resemblance to Celtic representations from Central Europe. In Reinheim in Saarland on the border with the French department of Moselle, two burial mounds from the early La Tène period (around 370 BC) were examined. In the so-called "princess grave" , among other things, a tubular jug was found, the lid of which is decorated with a mystical mythical creature. The hybrid of dog, horse and human also has large, ear-like features and shows a certain resemblance to the figurine from Uppåkra.
