Kenneth "Ken" Brierley (born April 3, 1926 in Ashton-under-Lyne , † February 2004 in Blackpool ) was an English football player who played 185 games in the Football League for Oldham Athletic and Liverpool FC between 1946 and 1955 .

Career

Brierley joined Oldham Athletic from local football in April 1945 . As a versatile player who stood out in particular with his ball control and game overview, Brierley was used on the left attacking side as an inside or outside striker in the Third Division North , but was also used as a left outside runner. In February 1948 Brierley moved to the reigning English champions Liverpool FC in the First Division for a transfer fee of £ 7,000 . Although he immediately moved into the team and scored his first competitive goal in a 4-0 win against local rivals Everton FC in April 1948, he did not succeed in establishing himself permanently in the team in the following years. It was not enough in any of his six seasons to more than 13 league appearances in the 1948/49 season. In March 1953 Brierley returned to Oldham Athletic for a transfer fee of £ 2,750 and rose with the club at the end of the season as champions of the Third Division North in the Second Division . The higher division turned out to be too strong for Oldham and after only one season was the return to the third division as a knocked-off bottom of the table.

During the 1955 break, Brierley left Oldham and continued his career in non-league football . After a season with Stalybridge Celtic in the Cheshire County League , he let his career fade from 1956 to 1958 with league rivals Mossley AFC , for which he played 78 competitive games (10 goals).
