Kenneth Victor Campbell (born December 10, 1941 in Ilford , Essex , † August 31, 2008 in Epping Forest , Essex) was a British actor and theater director .

Career

Campbell studied at the London drama school Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . In the early 1970s, he started a theater company that performed in unusual places like pubs . Among the members of his group was Bob Hoskins .

In 1976 he co-founded the Science Fiction Theater of Liverpool , which aimed to be Illuminatus! based on the trilogy of Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea to bring to the stage. He also appeared as an actor himself; Bill Nighy was one of the other actors . The play was performed at the Royal National Theater . Another major project of the Science Fiction Theater of Liverpool was the stage adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy based on the novel by Douglas Adams , in which he played the role of Arthur Dent . However, this was not very successful. Adams then wrote a role for him on the BBC radio production.

Campbell had guest roles in various British television series such as Fawlty Towers and The Professionals in the 1970s . In the 1980s, he starred in some major movie productions such as Pauline and Joshua , Frankenstein's Bride and A Fish Named Wanda . Campbell was also active as a writer, and published numerous books.
