Ken Medema

Kenneth Peter Medema (born December 7, 1943 in Grand Rapids , Michigan ) is an American composer and singer who is active in the United States and Europe .

Life

Blind from birth, however, he is able to distinguish light and shadow and to perceive larger outlines. At the age of five he began to experiment on the piano himself . From the age of eight he learned in private lessons to acquire classical music theory with the help of Braille music script as well as to train perfect pitch and the ability to improvise in various musical styles.

In 1969 he graduated in professional music therapy at Michigan State University to professionalize before becoming a music therapist in Fort Wayne, Indiana and in Lansing to his vocal phrasing and his piano playing New Jersey worked.

In 1973 he began his career as an independent artist by recording and presenting his own songs. Every experience of human existence can be the subject of his compositions, but spirituality and social justice are important to him.

He recorded his first albums with the record company Word and Shawnee Press before founding Brier Patch Music in 1985 in his birthplace. This company is entrusted with the production and distribution of his publications and at the same time serves him to organize his performances and tours. In the years of his work to this day (2008) Ken Medema has released 26 albums.

He is able to compose on the spot. A sermon, a story or even spontaneously uttered words can inspire him to write a song, which is then immediately created within minutes.

Its performances are in demand at church assemblies, youth assemblies, annual meetings, and church services. He lives in San Francisco , California, USA.
