1974 European Kendo Championship
The first European Kendo Championship in 1974 was hosted by the European Kendo Federation on April 17th . There were men singles and five-man team fights.

The venue was the new Bletchley Leisure Center (sports center) in Milton Keynes , where the 3rd Kendo World Championship in 1976 was held. The event was opened by the mayor. Six high dan bearers (7th and 8th Dan) of the All-Japanese Kendō Association came to serve as judges .

Nine countries took part in the championship. Including the United Kingdom , Belgium , France and Sweden . The participants of the British Kendo Association , founded in 1964, were able to prevail with four draws (Hikiwake) and one victory with one point against the team from Belgium. Vic Harris (from Token and Nenriki Dojo) was the team captain (Taisho). John Howells (Neni'iki Dojo) fought in the Nitō style. David Todd ( Blyth- Dojo) prevailed in the individual competition in the final against Jean-Claude Tuvi from France.
