Kensington Road is a German rock band around the singer and songwriter Stefan Tomek, which musically can be classified into the categories of indie rock and alternative.
history
The name Kensington Road refers to the street of the same name in Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island . Stefan Tomek lived there in an attic in the early 1990s and made music with his Canadian colleagues.
Back in Germany, he founded the band 29 Kensington Road and was on the road in the Berlin music scene with changing line-ups for the following years.
Ready for a fresh start, the band changed their name from 29 Kensington Road to Kensington Road in 2008 . In 2008, Stefan Tomek gained an experienced pianist and arranger in Michael Pfrenger . A short time later, the Berlin guitarist René Lindstedt joined them.
Intensive songwriting and recording sessions resulted in the first, critically acclaimed album A Story From Somewhere In Between , which was released in summer 2009. As single releases, Satellite and Leave This Town were both a rocky uptempo (Satellite) and a quieter midtempo number (Leave This Town).
The song Personal Transcendental Experience was the official song for the 2010 DTM championship and was played during the summary of the race days on TV and after the award ceremony on the race track.
In June 2011 the band released their second album entitled The Last Living Giant with twelve new songs. For the first single Tired Man , the band shot a music video with Israeli director Aviv Kosslov. The song So Alive was the official song for the 2011 DTM racing season. In July 2011, the band played on a mini tour, in the opening act for Simple Minds and at individual concerts as the opening act for Mando Diao , Sunrise Avenue , Hurts and Ronan Keating .
After a creative break, Kensington Road went back to the studio in 2014 to start recording a new album. The White Noise EP was released on a tour of Germany in spring 2015 with five new titles as a preliminary version of the album of the same name. The music video for the single Taxi was shot on this tour of Germany.
In 2016 the band wrote new songs for the third album and started working with producer Thies Neu in Berlin.
In early 2017 the band went on an extensive tour to their new single "Here we go now". In May 2018 the single "White Noise" was released together with a new video clip as a harbinger of the album LUMIDOR.
In August 2018 the band released their third studio album LUMIDOR and went on an extensive concert tour.
