Kent McCord

Kent McCord (actually Kent Franklin McWhirter , born September 26, 1942 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor . He was best known for his role as a police officer in the television series Adam-12 (1968-1975) on the side of Martin Milner .

Life

Kent Franklin McWhirter was born in 1942 at the French Hospital in Downtown Los Angeles . He grew up in Baldwin Park, California .

After attending Baldwin Park High School and Citrus Junior College, he received a scholarship to the University of Utah in 1962 thanks to his good performance in football . In 1961 he met the singer Ricky Nelson at a football game , with whom he soon became a close friend. Through Nelson he received his first engagement as an actor in the television series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet , in which Nelson also starred. McCord's role was built over the next few years and he played on the series until 1966.

This was soon followed by smaller roles in films and television series, including the Elvis films Great Nights in Las Vegas , The Wild Women of Tennessee , King of Hot Rhythms and Curved Lilly . In 1965 he received a contract with Universal Studios and initially appeared in smaller roles in television productions.

In 1968 he got the role in the new television series Adam-12 , in which he solved numerous criminal cases with his partner played by Martin Milner . The series was hugely successful, and McCord appeared in 174 episodes over 7 seasons.

In 1980 he appeared in the television series Battle Star Galactica . In addition, in the 1980s and 1990s in particular, numerous guest roles followed in television series such as MacGyver , Mord ist ihr Hobby or seaQuest DSV .

McCord was also involved in the American actors' union Screen Actors Guild , where he was elected to the National Board in 1972 and later held various positions such as 1st National Vice President (1979–1980; 1981–1982; 2006–2007) or National Treasurer ( 2001) held.

Private life

McCord has been married to Cynthia Lee Doty since July 14, 1962, whom he had known since high school. The marriage resulted in two daughters and a son.
