Asteroids fire - The earth explodes ( Doomsday rock ) is an American science fiction film of Brian Trenchard-Smith from the year 1997 . The main role was played by William Devane . The film was shown for the first time on German television on February 21, 2003.

action

The astronomer Dr. Karl Sorenson examines ancient records that warn of an asteroid falling to Earth. Since he is not believed, he persuades some of his followers to occupy a US base with nuclear weapons. The asteroid is to be destroyed with two missiles launched.

The FBI notifies Katherine, Sorenson's daughter, who is also a scientist. She should persuade her father to give up. The US government fears that the Russians could interpret the launch of a missile as an attack.

At first it appears that the asteroid will miss Earth. However, it then collides with a comet and is directed towards Earth. Sorenson launches a rocket, but the power of the warhead is too weak for the asteroid. The Russians are also launching a missile, as it turns out, not against the United States, but to destroy the asteroid. Both missiles reach their target at the same time, the earth is saved.
