With the Leibniz-Ring-Hannover , the Press Club Hannover has been honoring personalities or institutions every year since 1997 "who have drawn attention to themselves through an outstanding performance or have set a special mark through their life's work". At the same time, this award is intended to commemorate the universal scholar Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz , who worked in Hanover until his death . "This great thinker [...] promoted the course of science as a mathematician, lawyer, physicist, theologian and philosopher", as the Press Club writes. The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros.

In 2016, a few days before the award ceremony, the winner's ring made for the award winner Maria Furtwängler , as well as another sixteen gold rings that had been submitted for the competition and were displayed in the rooms of the press club, were stolen. A reward of 5,000 euros was offered. A new ring of honor had to be made at short notice for the award ceremony.

Goldsmith competition

The ring is determined in the "highest endowed goldsmiths competition in Germany", which is advertised by the Hanover Press Club and the Hanover Gold and Silversmiths Guild (Konrad Kabe).

The participating goldsmiths and jewelry designers will receive prize money of 3,500 euros for the winning ring and 500 euros for second place. One of the design requirements is that the piece of jewelery is tailored to the respective award winner and their outstanding performance.
