Ulrich Reimers (born March 23, 1952 in Hildesheim ) is a German engineer in the field of electrical engineering and university lecturer . He is considered a pioneer of digital television .

Life

After graduating from high school at Scharnhorstgymnasium Hildesheim , studying electrical engineering with a specialization in communications and high-frequency technology, and completing his doctorate at the Technical University of Braunschweig , Reimers worked for Bosch in the television systems sector for seven years , after which he was technical director of North German Broadcasting . From June 1993 to March 2020 he headed the Institute for Telecommunications at the Technical University of Braunschweig. From 1990 to 2002 he was chairman of the Television and Cinema Technology Society ( FKTG ). From 2012 to 2018 Reimers was Vice President of the TU Braunschweig for strategic development and technology transfer . From 2018 to March 2020, as Vice President of the TU, he was responsible for questions relating to university development and technology transfer.

Reimers was a board member of the German TV platform and chairman of the technical module in the DVB project . He is Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Determining the Financial Requirements of Broadcasters (KEF) and a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) . In December 2019, the members of the Braunschweigische Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (BWG) elected him president of the society. Reimers resigned from this honorary position in June 2020 in protest against questionable processes in society.

In 2001 Reimers received the IEEE Masaru Ibuka Consumer Electronics Award . The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) elected him in 2006 in their Hall of Fame of the most important personalities. In 2010 he received the VDE Honor Ring.
