Kerry Conran (born November 6, 1964 in Flint , Michigan ) is an American director . His first work was " Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow " for which he also wrote the script .

He grew up in Flint without knowing the other filmmaker from there, Michael Moore . He trained at the California Institute of the Arts ("CalArts") in Los Angeles . Even there he was mainly interested in digital effects. He tried to create his first film on an Apple Macintosh IIci ( Electric Image for 3D effects, Photoshop and After Effects ).

He worked for 4 years on a 6 minute long clip that producer Marsha Oglesby happened to see. She then spoke to producer Jon Avnet, who was also immediately enthusiastic. Together with Jude Law , Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie , both were able to secure the financing of his directorial debut.

It is the first film that was made entirely using the blue box process . A total of 29 days of shooting were enough, because most of the work was in the creation of the computer-generated film components. The film cost an estimated $ 70 million.
