The Kerschbaumeralm Schutzhaus is located at an altitude of 1902 m on the Kerschbaumeralm northwest in the central area of the Lienz Dolomites, surrounded by numerous peaks of alpine importance ( Kreuzkofel , Eisenschuss, Weittalspitze, Simonskopf, Große and Kleine Gamswiesenspitze) and at the same time with an open view to the north to the Schober group . It was built in 1926 and is owned by the Lienz section of the Austrian Tourist Club . Until the construction of the material ropeway in 2008, the supply was initially provided by pack animals of the armed forces and finally by helicopters.

Hut summit
- Madonnen via ferrata to the Große Gamswiesenspitze
The via ferrata begins south of the Großer Gamswiesenspitze at 2100 m (sign). It leads over partially vertical passages to an airy traverse with a subsequent Nepal bridge , then on to the wall book and then over the summit ridge to the Großer Gamswiesenspitze ( 2488 m ). There, the descent takes place via the steep path to Gamsschartl ( 2369 m ), where the second part of the via ferrata begins. After crossing the north face of the west summit, it goes up to the west ridge and then over the west and east peaks of the Kleiner Gamswiesenspitze (both 2454 m ) down to the Kerschbaumer Törl and back to the Kerschbaumeralm mountain hut.
- Via ferrata on the Spitzkofel
The starting point is the Kerschbaumeralm mountain hut. The tour leads from the hut through the Kerschbaumertal via the Hallebachtörl to the start of the via ferrata at around 2500 m , from there via the via ferrata to the Linderhütte ( 2683 m , only emergency accommodation). This is followed by a short descent of around 50 meters in altitude and then the via ferrata continues to the Spitzkofel ( 2717 m ).
- Toni-Allmaier-Weg to the Weittalspitze
The starting point is the Kerschbaumeralm mountain hut. The via ferrata begins on the Zochenpass at Kanzele 2280 m and always leads westwards near the ridge over bizarre peaks and towers with beautiful climbing passages to the summit of the Weittalspitze ( 2539 m ).
