The Kesch hut or Chamanna digl Kesch is a mountain hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), Davos section, in the canton of Graubünden .
The Kesch hut is located at 2625 m above sea level. M. east of Bergün at the foot of Piz Kesch , near the Porchabella glacier.
It offers 92 beds, divided into 5-bed and 12-bed rooms, and is managed in the summer season from mid-June to mid-October and in the winter season from March to mid-May.
history
In the summer of 1893, the Davos section built at 2631 m above sea level. M. the first Kesch hut for 18 to 20 people. The first extension and conversion took place in 1916, followed by several others. In 1968 the Kesch hut was expanded according to plans by Jakob Eschenmoser .
The old Kesch hut was demolished and completely rebuilt in 2000. The sun is fully used to supply the hut with energy. That is why it received the Swiss Solar Prize for particularly environmentally friendly construction. Since 2006 it has been awarded the European Union's environmental label. The solar collectors (for hot water) and the solar cells (for electricity production) are supported by a small hydroelectric power station below the hut and, since summer 2011, by two wind generators (of the Air-X Land model ).
Approaches
Punts d'Alp
Hut trail:
- Starting point: Punts d'Alp in the rear Val Tuors ( 1782 m ), (paid long-term parking for hut visitors, in midsummer sometimes a call bus from Bergün )
- Route: Directly up through the forest, past Alp digl Chants and from there on the wide hut path through the Schegvel, finally along the Ava da Salect towards Fuorcla da Funtauna
- Summer and winter path, but in winter it is not possible to drive vehicles from Bergün to Punts d'Alp , d. H. then starting point Bergün and approaching through the entire Val Tuors (+2 hours walking time)
- Difficulty: mountain hiking (T2)

- Route: To Chants and then further along the Ava da Ravais-ch to the Laiets da Ravais-ch. From there after the top of the pass through the Val Sartia and through the upper Val Tschüvel southwards towards Fuorcla da Funtauna

Davos-Sertig
- Starting point: Sertig-Sand in the rear Val Sertig ( 1859 m ), (no parking, regular bus connection with Postbus from Davos )
- Route: Through the Chüealptal to the Sertigpass. From there into the Val Sartia and through the upper Val Tschüvel towards Fuorcla da Funtauna

Davos-Dürrboden
- Starting point: Dürrboden in the rear Val Dischma ( 2007 m ), (long-term parking for hut visitors, regular bus connection with Postbus from Davos )
- Route: To the Scaletta Pass. From there along the slope above Val Funtauna to Val Sartia and through the upper Val Tschüvel towards Fuorcla da Funtauna

Chamanna digl Grialetsch
- Starting point: Grialetschhütte on the Fuorcla da Grialetsch ( 2542 m )
- Route: Direction Dürrboden, then via a direct connection path along the slope to the Scalettapass. From there along the slope above Val Funtauna to Val Sartia and through the upper Val Tschüvel towards Fuorcla da Funtauna

Chamanna d'es-cha
Via the Porta d'Es-cha:
- Starting point: Es-cha hut above the rear Val d 'Es-cha ( 2594 m )
- Route: Ascent to Porta d 'Es-cha (short secured climbing section, II). From there, descent to Vadret Portschabelle and over it towards Fuorcla da Funtauna

About the Fuorcla Pischa:
- Starting point: Es-cha hut above the rear Val d 'Es-cha ( 2594 m )
- Route: Through the Val Pischa to Fuorcla Pischa. Further into Val Plazbi and from there to below the Alp digl Chants. From there on the wide hut path over the Schegvel and later along the Ava da Salect towards Fuorcla da Funtauna

Cinuos-chel
- Starting point: Cinuos-chel in the Upper Engadine ( 1616 m ), (long-term parking for hut visitors, Rhaetian Railway Station Cinuos-chel / Brail )
- Route: Through the Val Susauna and on through the Val Funtauna and finally through the upper Val Tschüvel towards Fuorcla da Funtauna

Tours
The hut is suitable as a starting point for circular hikes and summit destinations, glacier and ski tours and is a stage location for mountain bike tours . The next peaks are Piz Forun , Piz Kesch , Keschnadel , Piz Porchabella , Piz Val Müra and Piz Murtelet . It is suitable as family accommodation and is a stage of the Kesch trek and a transit point for the Swiss Alpine Marathon . Climbing garden and glacier are in the immediate vicinity of the hut. The neighboring huts are the Grialetschhütte and the Es-cha hut , which can be reached in 2 ½ hours on the white-blue-white marked path over the Porchabella glacier and the Porta d'Es-cha.
