The Kesenoiam ( Russian Кезенойам ; Chechen Къоьвзанан Іам) is an alpine lake in Chechnya and Dagestan ( Russia ).
geography
The still water lies at 1870 m and covers an area of about 2.4 square kilometers. The maximum depth is 74 meters. The lake freezes over in winter and in summer has a water temperature of around 5 ° C below 20 meters water depth, above 5 to 18 ° C.
fauna and Flora
It is well supplied with oxygen all year round and is relatively poor in plankton . An endemic species of trout , Salmo ezenami, lives in Kesenoiam . Until the introduction of two carp fish, this was the only fish species in the lake and is now considered to be critically endangered.
