Salmo Ezenami is a species from the family of Salmonidae (Salmonidae), which is endemic in Lake Kezenoyam -See in the northern Caucasus occurs. Salmo ezenami wasthe only fish species in the lakeuntil the introduction of the carp fish Gobio holurus and Squalius cephalus . Salmo ezenami was also introduced in Lake Mochokh .

Of Salmo Ezenami two forms are known, of which reaches a fully grown a length 16 to 26 centimeters and a weight of 200 to 350 grams, while the other lengths of 38 to 113 centimeters and a weight obtained from a up to 17 kilograms. The animals are conspicuously colored with 10 to 30 six to seven millimeter large carmine-red spots over the lateral line organ , small black spots on the back and red spots on the dorsal fin , the adipose fin and the upper lobe of the caudal fin . The 16 to 21 gill spines are short and wide. The corners of the mouth do not reach the level of the back of the eyes.
Way of life
Young animals feed mainly on mosquito larvae and river flea shrimp ( Gammarus ), larger animals on molluscs , other bottom-dwelling invertebrates and fry. Large specimens feed mainly on fish , especially since the introduction of Gobio holurus . Males reach sexual maturity at two, females at three. Spawns are produced throughout the year and are placed near underwater springs. Large animals are also likely to migrate to the tributaries to spawn.

Salmo ezenami is listed as critically endangered on the Red List of Endangered Species . The greatest threat is the introduced chub ( Leuciscus cephalus ), which eats the spawn of Salmo ezenami .
