Kevin Florent
Kevin Florent (born July 27, 1964 in Lutcher (Louisiana) ) is a retired American basketball player . He is also a citizen of Cyprus .
Life
The 1.96-meter-long winger was a member of the college basketball team at Southern University in the US state of Louisiana between 1983 and 1988 . There he was a teammate of the future NBA player and coach Avery Johnson . Florent was the best scorer in his team in 1986/87 (17.1 points / game) and 1987/88 (21.0 points / game). His first stop in professional basketball were the Palm Beach Stingrays in the US American League USBL in 1988 . Then Florent went abroad and was under contract with the German Bundesliga club TTL Bamberg in the 1989/90 season . With 511 points scored, he was the best scorer in the Franconian this year. He was with Bamberg in the spring of 1990 in the final of the DBB-Pokal , which they lost to Bayer Leverkusen in the return leg . In the championship semifinals, Florent and Bamberg were also eliminated against Leverkusen. He also competed with the Franks in the European club competition Korać Cup , they did not get past the sixteenth finals.
Florent moved to Cyprus for the first time in 1990 and stayed for two years with the Pezoporikos club in Larnaka . In the 1992/93 season, the US-American was under contract with the French second division team Tours , where Florent achieved an average of 19.5 points per encounter. He returned to Cyprus, and in the following years he worked for ENAD Nicosia and AEK Larnaka . With Larnaka he also played in the Korać Cup. Florent played for Hapoel Afula in the second division of Israel, for Omonia Nicosia and then in 1998/99 for the German second division team Teamwork Paderborn .
Florent then went back to Cyprus, where he played for various teams. With Achilleas Nicosia, Keravnos Nicosia, AEL Limassol , Apoel Nicosia and Apoel Limassol, he also gained European Cup experience over the years. Florent was sometimes a player-coach or playing assistant coach for his teams. As a player, he won the Cyprus championship with Keravnos Nicosia in 2001. As a trainer, Florent worked several times at camp events in Italy before he returned to his home country to become a teacher and basketball coach at the Chapelgate Christian Academy in Marriottsville, Maryland .
