Kevin Harpham

Kevin William Harpham is an American right-wing extremist . He was best known for an attempted bomb attack during Martin Luther King Day 2011 in Spokane .

Life

Kevin Harpham served in the US Army from 1996 to 1999 , during which time he was stationed at Fort Lewis , near Tacoma . In the mid- 2000s , he expressed considerable interest in joining the Aryan Nations organization, but according to a spokesman for the organization he should not have joined. He took part in a racist Internet forum , including advice on building bombs .

Attempted bomb attack

Shortly before the start of the Martin Luther King Day parade, workers found the bomb placed in a backpack on a park bench next to the route of the parade. The explosive device consisted of explosives , shrapnel-like pieces of metal and rat poison to stop the blood from clotting in the victims.
