Kevin McNamara (Archbishop)

Kevin McNamara (born June 10, 1926 in Newmarket-on-Fergus , County Clare , † April 8, 1987 ) was an Irish Roman Catholic clergyman.

Life

Kevin McNamara attended St Patrick's College in Maynooth and was ordained a priest on June 19, 1949 . He was a temporary lecturer in moral theology and later professor of dogmatics . On August 22, 1976 he was to succeed Eamon Casey to Bishop of Kerry nominated and received as such on 7 November 1976, the consecration by the Archbishop of Armagh , William Conway , the co-consecrators Thomas Morris , Archbishop of Cashel and Emly , and Eamon Casey, now Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh .

On November 15, 1984, McNamara was named Archbishop of Dublin to succeed Dermot Ryan . He held this office until his death on April 8, 1987, when Desmond Connell became his successor.

In the wake of the Roman Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal , the Murphy Report found that the four Archbishops, John Charles McQuaid , Dermot Ryan, Kevin McNamara and Desmond Connell, were aware of the allegations but rarely followed up on complaints.
