Kevin Payton (born December 7, 1986 in Vienna ) is an Austrian basketball player . It is suspended from May 2017 to 2021 for violating anti-doping guidelines.

career

Payton was born to an Austrian mother and the former professional basketball player Charles Payton from the United States in Vienna and grew up there. In 2004 he left Austria and went to Camden High School (US state New Jersey ), where his father once played basketball. Payton averaged 26.1 points per game for Camden in the 2004/05 season, was also a member of the school's athletics team and was state winner in New Jersey over the 400-meter course and second over 200 meters and with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

Between 2006 and 2009 he combined competitive basketball and college at the University of Minnesota ( NCAA ). Payton played a total of 67 games for the university team and recorded an average of 1.5 points per encounter.

In 2009 he returned to his hometown Vienna and played for Basket Clubs Vienna in the Bundesliga . This was followed by further one-year positions in the top Austrian league in Traiskirchen and Fürstenfeld.

From 2012 to 2015 Payton was in the service of BK Klosterneuburg and won the Supercup with the Lower Austrians in 2012 and 2013 and the cup competition in 2013. In 2015 he went from Klosterneuburg to WBC Wels , with which he won the Supercup in October 2016 and was voted best player in the game. He returned to Traiskirchen for the 2017/18 season.

At the beginning of October 2018, the Austrian Anti-Doping Law Commission (ÖADR) announced that Payton had been banned retroactively from May 19, 2017 to May 18, 2020 because of “involvement in improper influence on doping control proceedings”. The accompanying press release stated that Payton had been found guilty after a procedure by the ÖADR, “because he met a teammate during an in-competition control (ICC) carried out on May 18, 2017 in Wels during a game of the Austrian basketball league Has provided urine for the purpose of submitting a false urine sample during doping control. ”Because he trained a junior team of the Vienna DC Timberwolves in May 2019 despite the suspension , his suspension was extended by one year to May 2021.

National team

Payton was appointed to the Austrian men's national team for the first time in 2009.
