Kevin Schmidt (born April 20, 1988 in Giessen ) is a former German handball player . The right-handed player played on the left wing in the German national team .

Schmidt began his career at TV Mainzlar . In 2002 he moved to HSG Pohlheim in the youth sector . In 2006 he was hired by the HSG Wetzlar and initially mainly used in the junior team. However, he made his first Bundesliga appearances in the 2006/07 season. In the following season he came in 19 games to 16 hits. Since 2008 he has developed into a regular player in the Bundesliga team. In the 2012/13 season he was the top scorer in the HSG Wetzlar team, which reached 7th place in the Bundesliga. In 2014 he left the HSG after eight years and switched to HSV Hamburg , where he signed a one-year contract.

After HSV Hamburg went bankrupt , Schmidt moved to VfL Gummersbach in January 2016 . Due to a severe cartilage injury, he had to end his career in 2017. Since November 1, 2018, he has been sporting director at HC Erlangen . After HC Erlangen fired its coach on February 28, 2020, he took over the coaching position together with Michael Haaß . He left HC Erlangen on June 30, 2020.

At the end of 2012, Schmidt was appointed to the squad for the 2013 Handball World Cup by national coach Martin Heuberger . He made his debut for the national team shortly before the World Cup in a 26:20 win in a friendly against Sweden, in which he was the best thrower of his team with 3 goals.

Schmidt played seven international matches for the German junior national team. In 2009 he won the world championship with the junior selection.
