The TV 1905 Mainzlar was founded in 1905 and is a sports club in a district of the Hessian city of Staufenberg . He is known nationwide for his women's handball team, which played in the Bundesliga for a long time . The curling department of the TVM is represented with 2 teams in the Bundesliga West and one team in the senior league. There are also participations in the German Championship and the German Cup. A youth and women's team is currently being set up.

The Union

The club has around 950 members and is organized in seven departments: handball , tennis , curling , gymnastics , children's gymnastics , dancing and carnival .

The handball players of TV Mainzlar

The rise of the Mainzlar handball players began in 1985 with promotion to the 1st district league, which was followed by marching through to the upper and regional leagues . In 1990 they reached the 1st Bundesliga and quickly caused a sensation there too: They only narrowly missed the big sensation in the quarter-finals of the German championship 1991/92 when they beat the reigning German champions TuS Walle Bremen in their own hall with 21:19 could defeat, but lost the overall result by just one goal.

TV Mainzlar was represented in the European Cup three times. One of the high points was the first away appearance on November 19, 1994, when the Macedonian representative Vardar Skopje reached a 24:24 draw in front of more than 4,000 spectators and made it to the quarter-finals of the City Cup, where they were then close to the Croatian representative Granicar Djurdjevac failed. The negative climax in February 2001 was the farewell to the European Cup Winners' Cup without a fight , when the club was unable to finance the away appearance for the Russian representative Kuban Krasnodar.

The setback in February was followed by the greatest success in the club's history in June 2001. After the TV had failed in the final of the DHB Cup at HC Leipzig the year before, the big success came in 2001 in Riesa. In a memorable final, after extra time and three seven-meter kicks, they beat Bayer Leverkusen 45:44. In this game Mainzlar's goal scorer Monika Ludmilová scored 27 goals. In the Bundesliga , where you never had to seriously fear relegation for years and even ended the 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons with positive points, the relegation battle began in the 2003/04 season: Lützellinden 17:27 points, women 11: 33, Mainzlar 9:35 and Lübeck 3:41 - so the ranking in the last four places. The TV, relegated to the sport, was only able to keep the class because the domestic Hessian competitor TV Lützellinden was revoked the Bundesliga license for economic reasons. A year later, the reactivation of Monika Ludmilova, who had announced her resignation at the beginning of February 2005, could no longer prevent relegation: with two defeats in the relegation play-offs against VfL Oldenburg (25:33, 24:30) said goodbye TV Mainzlar from the 1st Bundesliga .

The relegation from the 1st Bundesliga was almost followed by another, namely that from the 2nd division . In January 2006 Jürgen Gerlach took over the coaching position and managed to prevent the fall into the regional league via the detour of relegation against TuS Lintfort (35:28, 29:24) . In addition, he led the A-youth of TV Lützellinden, which was finally dissolved a little later, to win the German championship. It was these players who from then on provided the scaffolding for the team: Eight players were members of the 2006 championship team; a total of ten former Lützellinderinnen were in the lineup, plus the coaching team Gerlach / Weber, who once won the Hessian championship with the TVL .

On January 26, 2011, TV Mainzlar withdrew the team from the 2nd Bundesliga South after numerous players left.
