Marianne Joachim

Marianne Joachim also Marianna (born Prager ; born November 5, 1921 in Berlin ; † March 4, 1943 in Berlin-Plötzensee ) was a German resistance fighter .

Life

Marianne Prager grew up in Berlin as the daughter of a construction worker . After finishing secondary school, she learned the profession of nanny in the Jewish children's home in Berlin's Gipsstrasse. Prager had to give up this job because she had been obliged to do forced labor on land in Rathenow in the summer of 1940 . On August 22, 1941, she married Heinz Joachim (1919–1942) in Berlin . At that time she was employed as a forced laborer in the Alfred Teves factory in Berlin-Wittenau . After her husband in the "Jewish section" of the electric motor factory of Siemens -Werke Herbert Baum had met, the couple of the tree group followed. The Joachim couple's apartment on Rykestrasse often served as a meeting place for the anti-fascist group in Prenzlauer Berg Berlin (AGiP) around Herbert Baum. This group carried out an attack on the anti-communist propaganda exhibition " The Soviet Paradise " on May 18, 1942 . Like her husband, Marianne Joachim was arrested and executed on March 4, 1943 in Berlin-Plötzensee.

A memorial plaque in Belforter Straße 11/12 commemorates them.
