Kfar Szold ( Hebrew כְּפַר סָאלְד Kfar Sold ) is a kibbutz in the Hule Plain in the northern Israeli Upper Galilee at the foot of the Golan Heights with 632 inhabitants (2018).
history
Kfar Szold was founded on November 13, 1942 by immigrants from Hungary, Austria and Germany. The kibbutz was named after Henrietta Szold , the founder of the Zionist women's movement Hadassah . During the Israeli War of Independence in 1948, the children living there were evacuated in anticipation of Syrian attacks. During the 1967 Six Day War , Kfar Szold was a constant target for the Syrian artillery, which had taken up position on the Golan Heights. On July 21, 2006, Hezbollah fired several Katyusha rockets at communities on the Hule Plain, including Kfar Szold, injuring several people.
economy
The most important economic sectors are the cultivation of apples, citrus fruits , avocados , corn , watermelons and cattle breeding . In addition to agriculture, the kibbutz operates the internationally active metal factory LORDAN , specializing in the production of lamellar heat exchangers .
Like most kibbutzim, Kfar Szold has a guest house for tourists.
