Khaibar-1 ( Arabic خيبر -١ Khaibar-1 , DMG Ḫaibar-1 ) is an artillery missileusedby the Hezbollah militia in the 2006 Lebanon war to attack cities in northern Israel . The missile's name was first used on July 28, 2006 by Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah in a speech on Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese television channel al-Manar . The missile wasfiredat the city of Afula near Haifa .

On August 2, 2006, Khaibar-1 rockets hit the Israeli city of Bet Shean , approximately 70 km south of the Lebanese border . It was the Hezbollah missile that had penetrated furthest into Israel at the time. On 4 August 2006 Khaibar-1 rockets hit Hadera one.

The IDF claims that the Khaibar-1 missile is a renamed Fajr-5 or Fajr-3 made in Iran . According to the reports, the destructive power of the Khaibar-1 missile (around 100 kg of explosives) and the range are four times greater than that of the Katyusha missile, Hezbollah's previous standard missile. Other sources assume that the Khaibar-1 is based on the WeiShi-1 rocket from the People's Republic of China , which have the same caliber and a similar range.

The name of the rocket most closely refers to the battle of Khaibar in 629, between Mohammed and his followers against the Jews who lived in Khaibar , an oasis 150 kilometers from Medina , in the Hejaz area , in the western part the Arabian Peninsula , which has been considered part of Saudi Arabia since 1926 . The battle ended with Muhammad's victory over the Jews. Some observers believe that the reference to the Battle of Khaibar is intended by Hezbollah as propaganda in order to have a psychological effect on the Israelis.
