Kibuye is a city in western Rwanda and a well-known seaside resort in the country. The city is located about 60 kilometers west of Kigali on Lake Kiwu in the Western Province . Kibuye has about 48,000 residents.

Kibuye is located on a very rugged coastline on the eastern edge of Lake Kiwu , about halfway between Cyangugu and Gisenyi . The town itself is a bit elevated, but the numerous fishermen usually have their houses down on the coast. Since the territorial reform of January 1, 2006, the city belongs to the Western Province and is the administrative center of the Kibuye district . The Western Province was formed in 2006 from the amalgamation of Gisenyi Province, Cyangugu Province, parts of Ruhengeri Province and Kibuye Province, the capital of which had previously been Kibuye. Before the genocide, there were 250,000 Tutsis in Kibuye Province, only 8,000 survived the massacres.

There is a genocide memorial in the city, commemorating the genocide in Rwanda . The Ndaba waterfall is also close to the city . A shabby and since 2005 closed holiday complex with bungalows should attract tourists.
