Luis Villanueva Páramo (* 21st June 1913 in Tepito , Mexico City ; † 16th March 2002 in Mexico City), commonly known as Kid Azteca and also known by the nickname Kid Chino , was a Mexican boxer in the welterweight division .

Professional career

His career began on September 1, 1929 with a loss on points to Pancho Aranda and ended on February 3, 1961 with a knockout victory against Alfonso Malacara.

Because of his appearance, especially his eyes and hair, he was nicknamed "Kid Chino" ( English - Spanish for "Young Chinese ") at the beginning of his career . When the organizers of his early boxing matches, most of which took place in the border town of Nuevo Laredo , learned of his origin, Tepito, in Mexico City , they named him “Kid Azteca” (Eng. “Young Aztec ”); because on the one hand the former Tenochtitlan was once settled by this powerful tribe and on the other hand a name that is reminiscent of the Aztecs is still a not to be underestimated identification feature in Mexico and thus promoted its popularity.

With his victory against David Velasco in October 1932, he was crowned Mexican welterweight boxing champion; a title that he was able to maintain until 1949. His 32-year boxing career earned him a place in the Guinness Book of Records . Most recently, Villanueva lived in a small apartment not far from Plaza Garibaldi in the northern center of Mexico City . He died in the Juárez de México Hospital north of the city center .
