Kiek in de Kök ( High German Kuck in die Küche ) is a former cannon tower in Estonia's capital Tallinn . The tower was built in 1475, it is 38 m high, has a diameter of 17 m, the walls are 3–4 m thick. At the time it was the largest of its kind in Northern Europe.

It owes its Low German name to the German-speaking history in the Baltic States . “Kiek in de Kök” was coined in the Middle Ages for towers, from which one could literally look into the kitchens of the city's citizens.

The tower was partially destroyed during the Livonian War (the cannon balls built into the wall are a reminder of the damage), but later rebuilt. Today it has been completely restored and houses part of the Tallinn City Museum.

During the Second World War , the collection of the Estonian Maritime Museum was stored in the basement of the tower .
