The Kiewa River is a river in the north of the Australian state of Victoria and an important tributary of the Murray River .

The source is south of Victoria's tallest mountain, Mount Bogong in Alpine National Park , near the Clover Power Station at the confluence of Rocky Valley Creek and Pretty Valley Creek . From there the Kiewa River flows north and flows into the Murray River after 109 kilometers at Albury .
Tributaries
The largest tributary is the Kiewa River West Branch , which flows into the Kiewa River at Mount Beauty . From there the river flows through rich farmland to its confluence with the Murray River. The small towns of Tawonga , Tagambalanga , Kiewa and Yackandandah are located on the river .
use
The river's waters are retained by the dams of the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme , which uses the river and its headwaters and tributaries. The McKay Creek and West Kiewa power plants are the main ones in the system that covers the electrical peak load in Victoria.
