The club's soccer team played 22 seasons in the Mestaruussarja , Finland's highest league, and has been Finnish champions four times. The club name is derived from the Swedish Kronohagens Idrottsförening ( German  KIF - "Kronohagens Sportverein" ) .

history

The association was founded in 1908 under the name Kronohagens IF (KIF for short). The first successes soon came. In 1913, KIF defeated ÅIFK Turku 5-3 in the final of the Finnish championship. Another championship followed in 1915 with a 1-0, again against ÅIFK Turku. In 1916 KIF again won the Finnish championship against ÅIFK Turku by 3-2.

In 1928 the ice hockey team won the runner-up in the Finnish championships, which were held for the first time. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, KIF were among the best teams in the country, becoming Finnish champions in 1939, 1941 and 1943.

Kronohagens IF Helsinki was one of the founding members of Mestaruussarja, the highest Finnish football league , in 1930 . However, it was not until 1955 that another Finnish championship followed. In 1978 the club rose after 22 seasons in the Mestaruussarja. A year earlier, the club had renamed itself FC Kiffen Helsinki .

In the 1970s, the KIF men's handball team was one of the top national teams. From 1972 to 1982 the team always reached a place in the top three with only one exception. In 1976 and 1978, Kiffen won the trophy. 1978 even as a double with the Finnish championship. In 1989, the team celebrated their last notable success in third place.

The women's handball team won the cup in 1981 and has been one of the best teams in Finland for over a decade. In 1992 and 1993 the Kiffen players won the championship.

Today the Kiffens soccer team plays in the Kakkonen , the third highest league in Finland.
