Kii-Ming Lo or Lo Kii-Ming ( Chinese  羅基敏 , Pinyin Luójīmǐn ; born November 4, 1954 in Keelung ) is a Taiwanese musicologist .

Kii-Ming Lo was born on November 4, 1954 in Keelung (Taiwan, ROC). After studying textile technology at the Catholic Fu-Jen University in Taipei, which she completed with a bachelor's degree, she went to Germany to study musicology. From 1980 to 1988 she studied musicology ( Ludwig Finscher , Herbert Schneider ), sinology ( Günther Debon ) and ethnology ( Georg Pfeffer ) at the University of Heidelberg . Her doctorate took place in 1989 under the supervision of Ludwig Finscher with the dissertation Turandot on the opera stage [Frankfurt / Bern (Peter Lang) 1996]. From 1989 to 2002 she worked as a professor of musicology at the Catholic Fu-Jen University, and since 1999 as a full professor of musicology. From 2002 until her retirement in 2020 she taught as a professor of musicology at the music faculty of the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) in Taipei.

Musicology

The teaching activity of Kii-Ming Los at the NTNU brought about a gradual professionalization of the subject of musicology in the Republic of China (Taiwan) under the influence of the German musicological tradition. Since 1999, Kii-Ming Lo has organized several international musicology congresses, including a. in collaboration with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) in Taipei. The international congresses on Giacomo Puccini (2008) and Richard Wagner (2013) received particular attention . Her numerous publications include several monographs in Chinese, including a biography of the Taiwanese composer Pan Hwang-Long ( 潘 皇 龍 ), as well as several articles in Taiwanese journals. She published numerous articles in German, English and Italian in congress reports and specialist journals. Together with her husband, the musicologist Jürgen Maehder , she wrote a number of Chinese monographs on opera history . Her research areas include the operatic history of the 19th and 20th centuries in Europe, especially the "Turandot" operas by Giacomo Puccini and Ferruccio Busoni , the interrelationships between music and literature, in particular the history of the opera libretto in Germany with special emphasis on German literary opera of the 20th century, the history of the opera film adaptation with a focus on Jean-Pierre Ponnelle , the interrelationships between Asia and Europe in European music theater and contemporary music in the Republic of China (Taiwan).
