action

After Hitomi Uzaki is attacked by a gang of college students , she kills everyone except Yūya - who is visibly shocked to see her turning into a beast and fighting a lion on an abandoned garbage dump. These people with the ability to transform into animals are called "brutes". They are fighters created to combine human intelligence with the clutches of beasts. The "killing bites" battles have been fought since the earliest times and have always represented a turning point in the Japanese economy. Hitomi was tasked with protecting Yūya.

Characters

Protagonists

Yūya Nozomo ( 野 本 裕 也 , Nomoto Yūya )
A university student forced by classmates to kidnap Hitomi. After the incident he is forced by Reiichi to let Hitomi live with him as his protector. In return, he has to take part as Hitomi's financier in the next Destroyals, a battle royale. After the tournament, he is seriously wounded on orders from Reiichi. He is then injected with the genes of a crow . He goes on a campaign of revenge against those who betrayed him.
Hitomi Uzaki ( 宇 崎 瞳 , Uzaki Hitomi )
A girl with the genes of the honey badger , which - unlike the other hybrids - were inherited and not subsequently injected. Thanks to its genes, it stands in the way of any opponent without fear, no matter how powerful it appears. His strategy of provoking his opponents so that they attack Hitomi first, so that Hitomi can counter them, makes her an unpredictable opponent. It has deep feelings for her carer Reiichi, which he shamelessly exploits.
Reiichi Shidō ( 堂 零 一 , Shidō Reiichi )
He is Hitomi's guardian. Reiichi orders her to live with Yūya for a while and to protect him from attacks by other hybrids. He regularly takes advantage of her feelings to manipulate Hitomi without blinking an eye. He uses the killing bites fights as tests for his own research. After he has gained the power of all four zaibatsu, he demands the killing of Yūya, because he is too deeply involved in the events.

Zaibatsu

Yōko Mitsukado ( 三門 陽 湖 , Mitsukado Yōko )
Yōko is the granddaughter of Yōzan. She believes the Killing Bites were manipulated by Shidō's influence. After the end of the first Destroyal, a Killing Bites Battle Royale, the remaining Zaibatsu conspire against their grandfather and destroy the Mitsukado family. She is given into the hands of the lion hybrid Yūgo, who abuses her as his personal slave .
Yōzan Mitsukado ( 三門 陽 参 , Mitsukado Yōzan )
Yōko's grandfather and head of the Mitsukado-Zaibatsu. After his murder, the Mitsukado-Zaibatsu is smashed and the remaining family clans agree on the rights to the hybridization among themselves.

hybrid

Pure Inui ( 戌 井 純 , Inui Pyua )
A girl who was given her dog's DNA to save her life after a car accident . Although it was weak at the beginning due to its inexperience, Yūya took it on and trained it to be a strong fighter. It tends to frivolously trust other people, even if they are hostile towards it - only when someone turns out to be a danger to Yūya does it reveal its true nature.
Tasuku Kuroi ( 黒 井 佑 , Kuroi Tasuku )
A hybrid that has been given Tasmanian Devil DNA . Her dream is to become stronger than Hitomi, whom she idolized. She is one of the few hybrids to have managed to inflict severe wounds on Hitomi in battle.
Haiji Gotō ( 護 藤 ハ イ ジ , Gotō Haiji )
A Capricorn hybrid with an apathetic character. Since childhood she has felt at home in high places. She has been friends with Hitomi since she met Hitomi at a young age. Thanks to her agility and Capricorn DNA, she is able to climb the steepest of elevations with ease.
Eruza Nakanishi ( 中西 獲 座 , Nakanishi Eruza )
A cheetah hybrids and the younger sister of taiga, which specializes in fast attacks and is subordinate to the Yatsubishi zaibatsu. She loses the first Killing Bites tournament against Ui in an unexpected way and wants to get revenge on her because of it.
Ui Inaba ( 稲 葉 初 , Inaba Ui )
A scared girl who was given rabbit DNA . Contrary to its fearful and clumsy nature, it takes part in the first Killing Bites tournament for the Ishida Zaibatsu together with Okajima and Hitomi.
Kaori Rikujō ( 六条 香 織 , Rikujō Kaori )
A hybrid that received the civet cat's DNA . She is able to incapacitate her opponents by exuding an aphrodisiac . It is subordinate to the Yatsubishi-Zaibatsu.
Kaede Kazama ( 風 間 楓 , Kazama Kaede )
A hybrid gecko with a sadistic nature. She belongs to the Sumitomo Zaibatsu and took part in the first Killing Bites tournament, where she lost to Tiger and just barely survived.
Nodoka Uzaki ( 宇 崎 の ど か , Uzaki Nodoka )
A human hybrid created through the experiments of Reiichi Shidō after injecting human DNA into a South American sloth . This experiment gave her the intelligence of humans, but she still has characteristics of the sloth. In another experiment, she was given the DNA of a Megatherium , a prehistoric ancestor of the sloth, making Nodoka the first hybrid with three different DNAs. She is secretly sent into the ring by the Zaibatsu at the second Killing Bites fighting tournament to test her true strength.
Ichinosuke Okajima ( 岡 島 壱 之 助 , Okajima Ichinosuke )
A hippopotamus hybrid that belongs to the Ishida-Zaibatsu and was temporarily housed with Yūya.
Taiga Nakanishi ( 中西 獲 座 , Nakanishi Taiga )
A tiger hybrid and Eruza's older brother. He represents the Yatsubishi-Zaibatsu and sees Yugo, the lion, as a personal rival.
Takeshi Kido ( 城 戸 , 剛 Kido Takeshi )
A pangolin hybrid that is very close to nature and, especially cruel acts against opponents that nature behave disrespectful. He represents the Mitsukado-Zaibatsu.

A boy wearing glasses injected with gorilla genes . It belongs to the Mitsukado-Zaibatsu.

A hybrid with the genes of a grizzly bear who specializes in sumo techniques and belongs to the Mitsukado zaibatsu.
Den Ōnuma ( 大沼 電 , Ōnuma Den )

Ryūji Shiina ( 椎 名 竜 次 , Shiina Ryūji )
A crocodile hybrid subordinate to the Sumitomo-Zaibatsu.
Yūgo Tani ( 谷 優 牛 , Tani Yūgo )
A man with implanted genes of the lion . While he's ruthless in combat, outside of killing bites fights, he displays a rather friendly character. He is subordinate to the Mitsukado-Zaibatsu.

More characters

Mai Shinozaki ( 篠 崎 舞 , Shinozaki Mai )
Mai Shinozaki is the overseer of the killing bites fights.
Oshie Nodoguro ( 乃 塒 押 絵 , Nodoguro Oshie )
A supporting character who only appears in the closing sequences after the credits. Oshie is in love with Hitomi and is portrayed with a behavior similar to that of the Great Honey Indicator , a species of bird that works with honey badgers and leads them to bee nests. In the end, she is usually injured in the presence of Hitomi. The narrator's closing sentence that "Oshie is not a hybrid" is a running gag of the anime.
