Jane Bonner's husband, a police officer, is an alcoholic. She files for divorce. She is granted custody of their son Eric, nine years old.
Jane meets and loves Patrick Brody while being molested by her ex-husband. As a result, Patrick and Jane plan to move to another city. When Jane and her son go there, Eric is kidnapped. Jane first suspects her ex-husband, from whom she learns that her own child died shortly after birth. The policeman bought her baby - Eric - from a drug addict girl.
It turns out that Brody is the kidnapper. He is also Eric's biological father and wants to bring the boy to his grandfather - a wealthy man. For this he should receive five million dollars.
