Killradio (also stylized as KillRadio ) is a punk rock band from Northridge , California that was formed in 2001. The group's music combines a mix of different genres such as hard rock , hardcore , post-punk , ska and funk . The band officially broke up in 2009, while all members remained active in other music projects. In 2017 the band announced that they would re-establish themselves and, after a break of almost 10 years, they would release a new album again in 2018.
history
The original members of the band, singer and guitarist Brandon Jordan, bassist Todd Bondy and drummer Sergio Reyes, knew each other from previous projects from their youth and founded Killradio in 2001 in Los Angeles. The band's name stems from their shared belief that the current radio program is increasingly neglecting its actual function of bringing new, unknown and creative music into the limelight and is being used to commercialize a small selection of popular music. Or as it says in the lyrics of the song “Entertained”: “They made radio for the music. Now people just make music for the radio ”(They created the radio for the music. Today people only make music for the radio).
Initially, the band played on local stages in the Los Angeles and Ventura County area and released individual songs independently or with smaller record labels, with which they attracted attention and were finally signed by Columbia Records . In 2004 the band released their first album " Raised on Whipped Cream " which attracted attention with its political and socially critical content. The music on the album was received largely positively and eventually led to the group performing with other bands such as the Lostprophets or on the Warped Tour 2004, as well as being recorded on their annually released CD by the LA- based radio station KROQ. Some songs on the album were used as part of the computer game soundtrack, such as the song “Scavenger” in Need for Speed: Underground 2 ( Electronic Arts ) or “Do You Know? (Knife in Your Back) ”in ATV Offroad Fury 3 (Climax Racing).
