Kim Myŏng-sun (born January 20, 1896 in Pyongyang , † June 22, 1951 in Tokyo , Japan ) was a South Korean writer , poet and actress .

Life

Kim Myŏng-sun (writers' names: T'ansil [탄실 | 彈 實] and Mangyangch'o [망 양초 | 望洋 草]) was born on January 20, 1896 in Pyongyang. After she graduated from Chinmyŏng Girls' School , she made her debut in 1917 with the short story The Doubtful Girl (의심 의 소녀). After her debut, she went abroad for further training and became an active member of the literary magazine Creation (장초) during her stay in Japan .

Kim worked in a number of professions, she occasionally worked as a reporter for the Maeil Sinbo (매일 신보) and worked as an actress in several films such as B. The Flower Girl (꽃 장사) and The Time of Songs (노래 하는 시절) with. The last years of her life were marked by dissatisfaction and personal and professional disappointments. She died on June 22, 1951 in a mental hospital in Aoyama, Tokyo.

Kim is widely known as the first Korean woman to write modern literature. She wrote both novels and poems. Her lyrics are largely about burning love, the beauty of nature and memories of the past. Her novels, on the other hand, examine the inner world of her female protagonists more closely and depict the development of the so-called New Woman (신 여셩), i.e. H. educated modern women in early 2nd century Korea. She also showed a pioneering spirit in her efforts for the emancipation of Korean women.
