Kindertransport - The departure
Kindertransport - The Departure is the title of a bronze sculpture by the sculptor Frank Meisler .
The sculpture of bronze was in 2009 at the request of Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz before the Gdańsk Główny Railway Station set up and is reminiscent of the Kindertransport German children, according to the Nuremberg Laws as Jews were. They were brought to Great Britain from the German Reich or from countries threatened by it and, among other things, left here.
Corresponding monuments
In addition to Gdansk, there are corresponding sculptures by Meisler at other Kindertransport train stations :
- London : On the initiative of Prince Charles , the Kindertransport memorial has been in existence since 2006 - The Arrival at Liverpool Street Station in London , where the Jewish children arrived.
- Hamburg : In front of the Hamburg Dammtor train station , the Kindertransport - The Last Farewell memorial has been located since May 2015 . It was financed entirely from private funds and was inaugurated by Mayor Olaf Scholz .
- Berlin : The monument with the title Trains to Life - Trains to Death: 1938–1939 was inaugurated in 2008 at Berlin Friedrichstrasse station in Berlin .
- Hoek van Holland : In 2011 the Kindertransport - Channel Crossing to Life memorial was erectedfor the rescued Jewish children.
Meisler's groups of sculptures, which have since become the European route of the Kindertransporte , show similarities and different design details.
