King Stitt
King Stitt , real name Winston Spark (born September 17, 1940 in Kingston , † January 31, 2012 ibid), was a Jamaican musician .
He began his musical career in the late 1950s as Deejay with Coxsone Dodds Downbeat Sound System. His first record releases were then produced by Clancy Eccles and led to initial successes in Jamaica and the UK . Later he worked again more often together with Dodd in his Studio One .
Because of a deformity of his face, King Stitt also called himself The Ugly One , referring to the English title of the western Two Glorious Scoundrels by Sergio Leone .
He fell ill after returning from a tour of Brazil in October 2011 and spent several months in the hospital in Kingston. He died on January 31, 2012, at the age of 71, shortly after he was released from hospital.
