King of the Delta Blues Singers, Volume II is a compilation album by Robert Johnson , which was released under the production of Frank Driggs in 1970 on Columbia Records . It is a kind of sequel to King of the Delta Blues Singers and, like its predecessor, contains material that Johnson recorded in November 1936 and June 1937 on Vocalion Records . Both parts are among the most important albums in blues and general music history and appear regularly in best-of lists in renowned music magazines. The Rolling Stone listed King of the Delta Blues Singers ranked 27 of the 500 greatest albums of all time . The second part took 424th place. In the current version of this list, both albums have been removed from the list and replaced with The Complete Recordings , a compilation that contains all of Johnson's material. This compilation ranks 22nd.

backgrounds

Most of the songs had already been released in the late 1930s, shortly before and after Johnson's untimely death at the age of only 27, and sold relatively well, but his young death quickly made him forgotten and over time he was only a collector known and / or those who witnessed the original publication of the material.

In 1961 Columbia Records brought out King of the Delta Blues Singers under Driggs production , which established Johnson's reputation as one of the most important blues musicians of all time. His talent as a guitarist and songwriter was rediscovered.
