Kingsbarns is a town in the Scottish Council Area Fife . It is located about ten kilometers southeast of St Andrews a few hundred meters from the North Sea coast in the East Neuk region .
history
The place name means something like "royal barns" and refers to the agricultural buildings that were located in the Middle Ages to supply the royal castles Crail Castle and Falkland Palace . To the southeast, at the site of today's Randerston Farm House , there was a fortification building as early as the Middle Ages.
The village developed with the establishment of a port around the year 1810. From this mainly grain and potatoes were shipped to Newcastle and London . Today the systems can no longer be used. The elementary school, built in 1822, is the oldest still in use in Fife.
In 1961 there were 226 people living in Kingsbarns. By 2001 the population had grown to 400.
traffic
The A917 runs through Kingsbarns , which connects the coastal towns between St Andrews and Upper Largo to the trunk road network. In 1863 Kingsbarns got its own station along the Fife Coast Railway . However, the route was closed in 1965.
