Kinshasa Symphony is a 2010 documentary by the directors Claus Wischmann and Martin Baer , filmed in the Congo and accompanying the Kinshasa Symphony Orchestra during rehearsals to a concert. The film received consistently good reviews.
action
The Kinshasa Symphony Orchestra is planning a large open-air concert for the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Independence Day . Most musicians are not professional artists, but rather workers, doctors, craftsmen or traders. Several thousand spectators are expected. Few have any experience with classical music. The program includes Beethoven's Ninth , Carmina Burana , works by Dvořák and Verdi . The orchestra leader Armand Diangienda realizes that the delicate music passages do not sound very convincing yet. And the choir struggles with the sounds and the German language. The film accompanies some members of the orchestra on their way to the concert and shows them during rehearsals as well as in everyday life at work and at home. The film ends with excerpts from the performance.
